The Allegory of the Butterfly
“Open your heart and mind like the wings of a butterfly. See then how high you can fly.” – Zeenat Aman
Dear clients and partners,
As we turn the final page on 2023, my thoughts turn to writing my annual letter. As in previous years, I want to be hopeful, transparent and authentic, even if I struggle to find the words to express myself. Once again, we are closing the book on a year that brought its share of struggles and tested our ability to adapt both personally and professionally.
The Allegory of the Butterfly
Words fail me, but an allegory comes to mind. I think of a caterpillar who has transformed into a butterfly, but must fight to escape the confines of its cocoon and emerge. Each exertion of its new wings brings it closer to the moment when the constraints give way. The butterfly perseveres, fighting through pain, through adversity, until it is finally able to unfurl its wings. Without this ordeal, the butterfly’s wings would never be strong enough for it to fly.
The Cocoon
Many of us have faced illness, the loss of loved ones, life’s blows and a global situation that is anything but reassuring. Added to these challenges is the insecurity surrounding the future of major jobs here, in Quebec.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that Bill 96 and its interpretation by the OQLF force us to argue over the reality of businesses today, which are working in a very different international situation than they were in the 1980s. Thank you for your trust in GPC. We are proud to unite with you to show that matrix management companies have their place in Quebec, are entitled to equitable treatment and can be compliant.
Taking Flight
Beyond these trials, we must remember that we are surrounded by beauty and splendour that make it worth the effort of spreading our wings. Let us also remember that, unlike the butterfly, we are not alone. Let’s return to humanity’s core values of love, unity and respect. If perseverance is heroic, let us also be some of those who extend a hand.
This year, GP Conceptal is continuing its charitable work by contributing to the Sainte-Justine Tree of Lights, the Red Cross, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, the Parents orphelin association and the Les Perséides support group. In addition to financial assistance, GP Conceptal supports the less fortunate by collecting toys and used clothing. This year, the company is taking its involvement even further by offering a Christmas meal to a family in the Montérégie who suffered a major loss during the year. The team is coming together to offer a traditional home-made holiday meal and gifts to the family in need.
A new year is upon us. Let us stretch our wings and wish for a year of peace, strength, equity and hope, knowing that, regardless of any turbulence that may arise, we are strong enough to weather its currents.
