Nexia Biotechnologies
Nexia Biotechnologies
Nexia Biotechnologies develops and produces complex recombinant proteins for military and civil use. ProtexiaTM, its leading pharmaceutical product, is developed for military protection and emergency management applications. Nexia has developed an exclusive gene expression system using specialized genetic sequences that ensure its production is efficient and controlled.
Challenges: In 2004, Nexia Biotechnologies asked GP Conceptal to manage its francization effort and negotiate a special agreement regarding its R&D Centre and its production facilities in St-Télesphore, Quebec.
Solutions: Businesses that do R&D can negotiate a special agreement with the OQLF. So the first thing GP Conceptal did was a thorough analysis of the company's profile to clearly separate the administrative functions from the R&D. Then we prepared an application in due form and submitted it to the OQLF, an application that was successful.
Results: A special agreement valid for seven years was negotiated and Nexia Biotechnologies was awarded its francization certificate. The special arrangement is renewable.

CWD Enterprises
CWD Enterprises
CWD Enterprises, founded in 2010, held the master franchise in an American restaurant chain (Cheeburger Cheeburger). The master franchise covered the entire Canadian territory.
Situation: The company had to integrate French into the American business model and adapt it to the culture of the Canadian provinces.
Solutions: We helped our client integrate French into its processes, its menu and its website. We also supervised the adaptation of current health regulations in Quebec and updated the Employee Handbook in accordance with current Canadian laws.
Results: The master franchise is now in the hands of a new owner.

ACRCQ
Association du commerce et des restaurants chinois du Québec
L’Association du commerce et des restaurants chinois du Québec (ACRCQ) is an association of some 900 Chinese restaurants and businesses across the province of Quebec, 700 of which are located in Montreal. Its mission is to promote Chinese business culture, to strengthen ties and to encourage exchange between business owners in order to improve the quality of Chinese entrepreneurship, integrate it into Quebec culture and create wealth for Quebec.
Situation: In 2012, ACRCQ took advantage of a grant from the OQLF to hire a consultant. The consultant's job was to raise awareness among restaurants in Montreal's Chinatown and to encourage them to voluntarily pursue francization.
Solutions: GP Conceptal was asked to supervise the consultant, to manage the administrative aspects of the project and to prepare all the required reports. We were also brought in to help create a French-Mandarin language wiki on food trade that could be used by members of the Chinese business community in Quebec and abroad, where members could also potentially submit translation requests for new terms.
Results: Phase 1 and 2 of the project has been completed. During those phases, GP Conceptal was also responsible for the ongoing management and administration of those projects. In addition, we continue to work on the French-Mandarin food trade terminology website (wiki).

We successfully negotiated an agreement with the OQLF for a client whose application had been unresolved for thirty years.
We have worked with many clients to help them take advantage of francization within their processes and enterprise policies.
After a pharmaceutical company was bought by a US company, we supported them as they went through the francization process. Whenever a company changes its name, it needs to go through the francization process again. Leveraging the company's R&D activities, we were able to sign a special agreement with the OQLF, and our client received a grant as part of the SME francization support program for information and communications technology (ICT). As a result, the company received an award for its use of French in business and the workplace (SME category) during the Francopub awards ceremony in March 2010, thanks to its glossary of pharmaceutical products.
